Rwa's Demand Termination of Bses Contract in Delhi as Company Has Been Found Stealing Power in Mumbai
New Delhi: Resident Welfare Associations (RWA's) in capital have urged the Delhi government to immediately terminate the contract of Reliance Energy Limited owned power distribution company BSES in Delhi as the company itself has been booked for rampant power theft in Mumbai by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution company (MSDCL) .
The state power utility Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) on Tuesday filed an FIR against Reliance Infocomm Infrastructure Pvt Ltd for drawing power illegally by using an underground cable. The state power utility slapped a fine of about Rs 41 lakh to recover the loss of revenue caused by the alleged power theft.
This incredible incident has come to light on 6th November this year, when officers of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company found over-capacity cables supplying electricity to Reliance Infocomm promoted company, bypassing the meter.
The FIR clearly mentioned that MSEDCL had detected that power was being illegally drawn by using an underground cable connected to a 300-kilovolt substation.
"A power distributor company owned by Reliance Energy Limited (REL) in Delhi distributing power under the BSES Yamuna and BSES Rajdhani name, which has been seeking regular bail outs, subsidies and power tariff hikes from the Delhi Government in view of reported rampant power theft in the capital has itself been booked for power theft in Mumbai !" said Mr. R. P. Aggarwal, Anand Vihar RWA
Residents and corporates which have had to suffer the brunt of BSES's strong-arm tactics in Delhi, including slapping of false theft-cases on innocent consumers are livid at the news.
Mr V.N.Bali of Ram Vihar RWA, said, "We always believe that BSES has followed corrupt practices ever since it ahs taken over the distribution of power in Delhi. This case shows that corruption runs within its corporate structure itself."
Ravinder Singh, who has been fighting the BSES on various issues in Delhi claims that the company has compromised numerous caveats of the Electricity Act and have succeeded in corrupting entire swathes of the power distribution apparatus in the capital.
"Right form the influence they exert on the DERC, the special courts, the grievance cell down to the ex-employees of DVB, BSES is a shining example of corruption in corporate practice in the private sector", says Singh.
